Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s private Twitter account was “briefly compromised”, his workplace posted on the social networking website early on Sunday morning, after it shared a rip-off hyperlink promising a bitcoin giveaway.

“The Twitter deal with of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been instantly secured. Within the temporary interval that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared should be ignored,” PMO India tweeted.

The account has now been restored and the malicious tweets have been deleted.
